The General app for iPhone and iPad

4.4 ( 9824 ratings )
Games Board Strategy
Developer: Sean OConnor
1.99 USD
Current version: 2.1.1, last update: 1 year ago
First release : 10 Apr 2009
App size: 25.59 Mb

In this version of the classic board game you lead your troops into battle against the computer opponent in a race to capture your enemys flag before he gets yours. Initially you cant see how the enemy has positioned his troops and he cant see yours which gives ample opportunity for bluffing and deception from both sides.

"4 out of 5. We recommend the program to board game lovers." - Download.com

"Its like chess spliced with Minesweeper and Guess Who. Bearing in mind how important subterfuge and bluffing are in the original game, the silicon opponents provided are remarkably sharp." - EuroGamer.com

Pros and cons of The General app for iPhone and iPad

The General app good for

Awesome game, reminds me of the old stratego. I would give it a 5 but the fact that it sometimes dosnt let you move your pieces at the start bugs me
Pro: Game is as promised. No surprises or disappointments in functionality. AI is decent. Con: A little tough to pick up and move pieces. Sounds and visuals dont fit the iPhone "look & feel". AI can be a little slow in decision making.
A very good game. I used to play this board game when i was in my teens :) when i found it on iphone, i immediately downloaded. I must say that developer of this game must add some more AI, i can defeat easily now and add online play option :)
I love this game and play it constantly, but dislike the changes to the graphics in the recent update. Please bring back the look of the old playing pieces. Soon.
I love this game! Before the update, the spy acted as a super spy if it struck first! In your next update, can u make an option for super spy?
Great game just like stratego which Ive loved since I was a little kid

Some bad moments

This game have no interest. Thats a perfect exemple of why apps should have a "money back" function or "trial period" cause I bought it 10mn ago to uninstall it now for ever. If you are looking for good strategy games, have a look to some Strategery, Risk, Conquest Europe, etc... But let "The General" or you will have this feeling to have wasted money in your day :-( In case you really, really, really want to spend your money in that game : its not buggy, sounds are good (1 sound which repeat each 2 seconds, but good), and you have a good touch response, its fast, not laggy. So after that dont come crying "I want my money back", you had my comment before buying, so "try" it at you own risks. Thanks for reading.
I used to play this game all the time, but now there must be a bug, how in the hell can a 7 beat a 2? Until this is fixed this will stay 2 stars.
The pieces do not respond to touch and thus will not move. Game is useless when you cant move the selected pieces.
Very pretty, but the screen locks and causes bad moves, the computer player knows where all of the pieces are including the flag and cheats accordingly
Let me start by saying that I live in a tent. On the off occasion that I can make it into town I check my facebook. Get a new app or two. That sort of thing. I bought this app and it didnt download.
This game hasnt been updated in over a year and has weak AI with no multiplayer.
