A great game completely ruined by the upgrade. Opponents pieces dont show up and then it crashes on move 3. Uninstalled

Unfortunately, this upgraded version has many bugs that need to be fixed. Crashes on the first few moves. Ive had this app for a long time and this is the first to go completely backwards. Disappointed.... Please upgrade your upgrade.

App upgrade destroyed the game! No longer works on iOS. Please fix!

Ive had this app for a long time, but an upgrade caused too many bugs that it is no longer playable! Game starts with the AI only having the general... Surrender a few times and they get a full board, which is just a mirrored image of your own pieces. How much fun is this?

I too used this app for many years and have been a fan so Sean since early 2000 when Slay came out. This version needs to be rolled back ASAP. Opponent pieces dont appear except for the 1. Also went to the forums and they appear dead no updates on there either since several years ago.

Intermittently does not give you an opponent. - I removed the game and reinstalled. Seems to work again.

I have been a huge fan and supporter of "The General" for years! Love it!

What happened? This update is horrible. Game pieces move so slowly now, and the screen size is too small now. It used to be so snappy. Now its like playing in molasses. I used to play this game all the time until this update.

Sean, Please just revert to version 1.6. The AI is not much tougher. We dont care about making the AI smarter if it means slowing the game down. Vote YES if you agree.

Regarding most-recent update: why is the game so slow now? The new animations are not an improvement. Everything worked much more smoothly in the prior versions. Regarding the game generally, here is my initial review: I had this game on my old Windows Mobile phone years ago and loved it -- by far the game I played the most on that phone. I was hoping someone would port a Stratego clone to the iPhone (and now the iPad) and, sure enough, here it is. Woo-hoo!!! This game is perfect for people who love strategy turn-based war games. It can be played in about 5 minutes, which is ideal for a phone game. The goal is to capture the enemys flag before it captures yours. The trick is that you cant see what any of the enemys pieces are: the piece youre about to engage could be the general (#1) or a lowly scout (#9). Lower numbers defeat higher numbers, so surprise is a key element in the game. The AI here is pretty good: challenging, but not enough to frustrate you to the point where you dont want to play anymore. Its fun to come up with different placement strategies (the game comes with about 20-30 different pre-set placements to choose from, but its more fun to devise them on your own). Thanks for a great game and keep up the good work!

The game was great. I played it every day for 2 years. Now with the latest update, the game is horrible. Slow and buggy and no longer fun to play. I quit, until it is fixed.

After update it is starting up correctly but is very very slow. On a iPad 2. Please roll it back to the reversion. The last update ruined my favorite game. Please roll it back. It is way to slow now and its smaller graphics. Update July 11 still to slow to play. Just put the old version back

As other reviews mention, latest updates made gameplay incredibly slow. Game is basically unplayable now. Fix, or I will delete.

You are probably looking at this app because you want a game of strategy similar to Stratego. There exist dozens of variations of the same concept all over the world and over the Internet. The General by Sean OConnor is one of the best Ive ever encountered in the form of a computer game. Ive noticed it is very polished and works without slowdown or glitches. This app has so many useful options that contribute to enjoyable play. You get 6 different AI engines from what it seems. Maybe its just one engine but has 6 difficulties. You get a number of themes for the pieces. You also get a very good selection of predetermined arrangements to play as. You can also horizontally reverse each. Overall Ive found no issues with this app whatsoever. It should provide lots of enjoyment to any fan of turn based strategy games and board games.

The new version is horrible. Very laggy and slow, takes forever to play a game. CPU moves are choppy and slow. Such disappointment. I played the old version thousands of times, but now Im considering deleting the game.
